Blogdom's Best: Philadelphia Eagles
This image was lost some time after publication. It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Philadelphia Eagles.
Things, as they say, have not been going well. You've got the Terrell Owens situation. Donovan McNabb is injured yet again. Your team gagged in the fourth quarter to the Dallas Cowboys last night. According to the blogging community, all is lost. But we have a solution. Dump the Eagles name and logo, and go back to the original name — the Frankford Yellow Jackets. They became the Eagles in 1933, and everything has gone downhill since. OK, not really. It's a proud and storied franchise, which once boasted players such as Norm Van Brocklin, Steve Van Buren and Mike Van Ditka. Yep, Mike Ditka played for the Eagles for two seasons — 1967 and '68. You Eagles fans remember 1968. That was the year of the infamous Santa Claus Incident, in which you actually booed a guy dressed as Santa and pelted him with snowballs. Only in Philadelphia could that happen. And of course Tel Aviv. And now, because we sense you are booing this feature, we'll rate the three best blogs, according to our research. 3. The World According to TMC. Not about the Eagles exclusively, but good writing and consistent posting about the team Philadelphians love to hate. 2. Inside the Eagles. Their secondary logo headline, "Road to the Super Bowl," is a bit tragic, but the writing is fun. 1. For the Birds. Formerly 4th and 26th, a Philadelphia Eagles Blog, this is a well-established destination for grieving Eagles fans, and another good Most Valuable Network site. (Wednesday: Buffalo Bills)
