Blues Forward Chris Stewart Provided A Great Example Of What Constitutes "Instigating" Last Night
With debate raging about the visor corollary to the NHL's instigation penalty rule, it's beyond time to take a look at a textbook example of instigating.
Fortunately, St. Louis' Chris Stewart provided exactly that last night when he went after Detroit's Brad Stuart. The Red Wings defenseman had just leveled the Blues' Alex Pietrangelo with a brutal—but legal—hit and Stewart went seeking retribution. If you're going to earn an instigating penalty, go the whole way like Chris Stewart and pay no mind to the game happening around you as you seek out your target.
It proved to be costly, though, as the penalty created a power play opportunity cashed in by Pavel Datsyuk and the Red Wings won 3-1, running their home winning streak to 17 games. [NBC Sports]
