Boston Red Sox Prematurely End David Ortiz's Career By Getting Swept By Cleveland Indians
Photo credit: Elsa/ [object Object] The Cleveland Indians narrowly beat the Boston Red Sox tonight in Game 3 of the ALDS to get the sweep and advance to the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. Neither the Jays nor the Indians have won a World Series in over 20 years, and one of them will contend for their championship after they each swept their ALDS opponents.
As for the Red Sox, they couldn’t manage to extend David Ortiz’s career any longer, and his last at-bat was a walk. At least he made the most of it and trotted to first base like a glacier creeping its way down a valley.
Ortiz went 0-for-1 on the evening, but batted in a run with a sacrifice fly. After his eighth-inning walk, Papi got pulled for a pinch runner to raucous cheers. He stuck around after the game for an extended ovation.
Even if his career ended in a sweep, at least he got to go out at home.
