Brandon Marsh drives in 4 runs as Phils top Tigers

Brandon Marsh had four hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in four runs as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Bryson Stott scored three runs for the Phillies, who took two games in the three-game series. Bryce Harper extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a ninth-inning single.
Philadelphia starter Spencer Turnbull, facing his former team for the first time, left the game early due to shoulder soreness. He gave up one run and one hit in three innings, walking two and striking out two.
Jose Ruiz (2-1) notched the win with an inning of scoreless relief.
Matt Vierling hit a solo homer and a double while scoring both runs for the Tigers. Andy Ibanez added an RBI single.
Detroit's Tyler Holton was used as an opener and gave up one run and four hits in 1 2/3 innings. Keider Montero (0-2), elevated from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day, gave up five runs and five hits while striking out six and walking three in 4 1/3 innings.
The Phillies loaded the bases with no outs in the first but came away with only one run. Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner singled before Harper walked. Alec Bohm then lined out before Nick Castellanos grounded out to score Schwarber. Holton also retired Stott on a groundout.
Vierling tied the contest with a 413-foot blast to left-center in the home half of the first. It was his 10th long ball of the season.
Philadelphia retook the lead in the fourth. Montero walked Stott before Marsh launched a fastball over the left-center-field wall for his seventh homer of the year.
The Phillies increased their advantage to 5-1 in the fifth. Montero retired the first two batters of the inning, then gave up a single to Castellanos and a double to Stott. Marsh knocked both of them in with a single to center.
Philadelphia tacked on another run in the eighth. Castellanos walked before Stott hit into a fielder's choice. Stott stole second and moved to third on a Marsh single. David Dahl's sacrifice fly drove in Stott.
Ibanez's run-scoring single in the ninth completed the scoring.
