Braves' pitching, offense finally click in first win of '25 vs. Marlins

Spencer Schwellenbach threw eight scoreless innings and the Atlanta Braves won their first game of the season, beating the visiting Miami Marlins 10-0 on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Schwellenbach (1-0) extended his streak of scoreless innings to 14 in notching the longest start of his career. He allowed two hits, with neither runner reaching second base, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
Aaron Bummer closed the game with a scoreless ninth.
Marcell Ozuna provided much of the offense, going 3-for-5 with his first home run and double of the year. He scored three times and drove in three runs.
Matt Olson followed Ozuna's blast in the seventh inning with a 434-foot shot to right-center field for his first homer. Olson added a two-run single in the team's five-run eighth.
The Braves produced a season-high 16 hits, with six players getting multiple hits. Michael Harris II had three hits and Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies and Bryan De La Cruz added two hits.
The victory ended Atlanta's seven-game losing streak, short of the franchise-worst 0-10 start in 1988. Atlanta was the last team in the major leagues without a victory.
Miami's Max Meyer (0-1) pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, two walks and a career-best eight strikeouts. It was the longest outing by a Miami starter this season.
The Marlins didn't get their first baserunner off Schwellenbach until the fifth when Liam Hicks lobbed a two-out single to left.
The Braves scored three times in the third. Ozuna lined a double to center that drove home two runs and Riley followed with an RBI single to right field to complete the rally.
Ozuna's homer came on a wild play. He led off the seventh with a long fly to left-center. Dane Myers leaped high, reached over the wall and got a piece of the ball, which bounced onto the field and was caught by Griffin Conine. The play was originally ruled a catch but was overturned after a video review showed the ball had bounced off the top of the wall after it popped out of Myers' glove.
