Brett Favre: Starting Quarterback For...The New York Jets
All of those reporters embedded in Green Bay, Hattiesburg, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota can climb out of their bunkers and officially catch a flight to JFK International Airport immediately because amazingly (finally) the 31-day Favre itchy-scratchy melodrama has reached a merciful end . FoxSports.com was the first report the trade early Thursday morning. The Packers receive a conditional 2009 draft pick which is currently a 4th round pick, but increases depending upon how many snaps Favre takes next season. If he takes 80 percent of the snaps, the Packers get a first round pick, which considering Favre's injury history, seems entirely possible and an excellent deal for them. (Oh. And The Jets have to make the Super Bowl for that deal to actually happen.)
Obviously, more on this tomorrow. (Sorry.) But for now it's official: Brett Favre, starting quarterback, New York Jets:
"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform," owner Woody Johnson said. "He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field. (GM) Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process. I am excited about welcoming Brett, (his wife) Deanna and their family to the Jets organization."
Crazy.
