Brewers 1B Rhys Hoskins exercises $18M player option

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins exercised his $18 million player option on Friday to remain with the club for the 2025 season.
Hoskins would have received a $4 million buyout and became a free agent if he had declined the option.
Hoskins, 31, batted .214 with 26 homers and 82 RBIs in 131 games in 2024. The batting average was a career low, as were his .303 on-base percentage and .419 slugging mark.
It was Hoskins' first season with the Brewers. He missed the entire 2023 season with the Philadelphia Phillies after sustaining a serious knee injury.
Hoskins played six on-field seasons for the Phillies before signing with the Brewers as a free agent. He has a .238 average, 174 homers and 487 RBIs in 798 games with Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
Hoskins' decision comes one day after the Brewers declined left-hander Wade Miley's $12 million mutual option. Miley received a $1.5 million buyout and will become a free agent.
Miley made just two starts in 2024 before undergoing a Tommy John procedure in May. Miley, 37, hopes to be able to pitch in May 2025.
Miley is 108-99 with a 4.07 ERA in 317 appearances (310 starts) with eight teams.
