Brewers OF Blake Perkins (shin) to miss start of season

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins fractured his right shin in batting practice and likely will miss the first month of the season, manager Pat Murphy said Saturday.
The injury occurred after Perkins fouled a ball off himself, Murphy said, offering May as a best-case scenario for his return.
Perkins, 28, made his major league debut with the Brewers in April 2023 and became a nearly everyday player last season, appearing in 121 games. He hit .234 with 10 home runs and 63 RBIs but stole 23 bases and was valuable in outfield, named a Gold Glove finalist in center field.
A switch-hitter, Perkins hit .271 against left-handed pitching in 2024, batting .222 from the other side of the plate.
The Brewers signed veteran Manuel Margot to a minor league deal this week, and Perkins' injury increases the chances Margot will make the Opening Day roster.
