Buckeyes' Last-Minute Cover Had Brent Musburger Chuckling His Ass Off
Ohio State covered the spread last night against Northwestern in the most bizarre and unlikely way that Brent Musburger, couldn't help giving voice to the cursing masses across the country.
The spread opened this week at 5.5 and by the time kickoff came around, Northwestern was getting " a touchdown or more." Northwestern—inside its own 20 with 20 seconds remaining in the game—was poised to lose, but only 34-30. Then on first-and-10 from his own 16, Trevor Siemian took a nine-yard sack when he basically tripped over himself. Two plays later Northwestern set in motion the Rube Goldberg machine for degenerates that ended in an Ohio State recovery in the endzone, a 40-30 OSU win and the most backdoor of backdoor covers.
Vegas claims it was a $3-4 million swing, with bookies taking the hit since 80 percent of the cash was on Ohio State.
Brent and Kirk went on to have the national broadcast version of the holy-shit-can-you-believe-that-just-happened conversation.
