The team said Monday night that Crowder flew to Philadelphia to visit with a specialist, who set his return at around eight weeks.
Crowder will undergo surgery on Tuesday.
"He'll be back. He'll be back way before the playoffs," Milwaukee coach Adrian Griffin said.
"He came into training camp in phenomenal shape. And he's a tremendous piece of what we're trying to do moving forward."
Only Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard are averaging more minutes per game than Crowder, who is averaging 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season.
Crowder started two games in place of Khris Middleton, who the team is resting in back-to-back situations, and played in all nine games before he was hurt on Saturday.
The former Marquette star returned to Milwaukee in February when the Bucks acquired him from the Phoenix Suns at the trade deadline.
