BYU, Arizona State part ways with coaches
BYU head coach Amber Whiting talks to guard Kailey Woolston (10) during the basketball game against the Texas Longhorns at the Moody Center on Saturday, Mar. 2, 2024 in Austin. BYU coach Amber Whiting announced Saturday that she will not be back next season, agreeing to part ways with the school.
A second Big 12 program, Arizona State, also has an opening after dismissing Natasha Adair.
Whiting just finished her third season at BYU and posted a 45-51 record, including 19-35 in conference. The season ended Wednesday for the Cougars (13-17, 4-14) with an 81-69 loss to UCF in the Big 12 conference tournament.
Associate head coach Lee Cummard will serve as interim head coach.
At Arizona State, Adair is out after a 10-22 (3-15) season. She became the coach of the Sun Devils in 2022 and compiled a 29-62 record.
"We appreciate coach Natasha Adair's leadership and professionalism in guiding Sun Devil women's basketball over the past three seasons," Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini said in a statement. "She and her staff built meaningful connections throughout the Valley, and we respect how she represented ASU during her time in Tempe. A national search for the next leader of our program will begin immediately."
An injury-marred season concluded Thursday with a 96-88 loss to Iowa State on Thursday in the Big 12 tournament.
Adair previously was the head coach at the College of Charleston, Georgetown and Delaware.
