Cam Atkinson to sign 1-day contract, retire with Blue Jackets

Forward Cam Atkinson will sign a one-day contract that will allow him to retire as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team announced Wednesday.
Atkinson, 36, will sign his contract on Oct. 16 and be honored later that night before the Blue Jackets' home game against the Colorado Avalanche.
He spent his first 10 NHL seasons with Columbus from 2011-21, recording 402 points (213 goals, 189 assists) and a plus-17 rating in 627 games. He ranks second in points, goals and game-winning goals (42) to Rick Nash (547, 289, 44).
Atkinson totaled 489 points (253 goals, 236 assists) in 809 career games with the Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Connecticut native was selected by Columbus in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Draft.
