Athletic director Hannah Bazemore made the announcement Sunday.
"After thorough evaluation, it was apparent that a change was needed to help our men's basketball program achieve what is expected and attainable," she said in a news release. "While it is always difficult to make a coaching transition, this is the right time for our program. I want to personally thank Coach McGeehan for his leadership over the last 12 seasons and wish him and his family all the best moving forward."
McGeehan, 51, had been at the North Carolina school since the 2013-14 season and had an overall record of 184-199. The Camels won the 2019 Big South regular-season title and played in their first NIT, with McGeehan named conference coach of the year.
The Camels lost 79-62 to Delaware in the second round of the Coastal Athletic Association tournament on Saturday to finish the 2024 season with a 15-17 record, 10-8 in the CAA.
Campbell said it will immediately begin its search for its next head coach.
