Capitals slip by Oilers for fifth straight win

Mandatory Credit: Perry Nelson-Imagn Images Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and an assist and the visiting Washington Capitals won their fifth straight game, 3-2 at the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.
Tom Wilson and Matt Roy also scored for the Capitals, who extended their point streak to 11 games (8-0-3). Logan Thompson, the reigning NHL first star of the week, made 30 saves and picked up his first assist of the season.
Leon Draisaitl scored his NHL-leading 34th goal and added an assist to extend his point streak to seven games for the Oilers, who have lost two straight after winning four in a row. Stuart Skinner allowed three goals on 14 shots.
Edmonton played without Connor McDavid, who served the first game of a three-game suspension for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland late in the game Saturday.
After a penalty by Washington at 17:59 of the third period, the Oilers played the final two minutes with a 6-on-4 advantage but could not tie it.
Draisaitl gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 3:02 of the first period when he took a pass from Darnell Nurse and lifted a backhand shot past Thompson from the low slot.
Wilson tied it 1-1 at 9:01. After an Edmonton turnover, Aliaksei Protas entered the zone 2-on-1 and lofted a pass over a sliding defenseman to Wilson for the tap-in.
Roy gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead at 8:14 of the second period, scoring on a slap shot from the center point off a pass from Dubois.
The Oilers outshot the Capitals 23-9 over the first two periods.
Dubois made it 3-1 at 3:49 of the third period. Shortly after Washington's power play ended, Dubois fed Lars Eller, whose shot hit the post; but the rebound went to Dubois in front for the shot into an open net.
Corey Perry pulled the Oilers within 3-2 just 61 seconds later, scoring on a slap shot from the left circle off a pass from Draisaitl on the rush.
