Carli Lloyd Elbowed An Opponent In The Head
The FA Women’s Super League, England’s top soccer league for women, is currently in its Spring Series—an interim league before the 2017-18 season begins in earnest. In Sunday’s match between Manchester City and Yeovil Town, World Cup hero Carli Lloyd received a straight red card for elbowing Annie Heatherson in the 89th minute of Man City’s 5-1 win.
Lloyd, who complained to the official, was being held in the box by Heatherson before she shook her off with an elbow.
The BBC expects Lloyd to get a three-match ban for the red card. The WSL’s spring session is only eight matches long; City is currently tied for second with three wins and a draw. Lloyd’s deal expires at the end of the spring season, when she’ll return to the Houston Dash in the NWSL.
