Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Italian Open due to arm injury
World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the upcoming Italian Open, citing an arm injury.
"I felt some pain after playing in Madrid, some discomfort in my arm," Alcaraz posted on X Friday. "Today I did some tests and I have a muscle edema in my pronator teres, a consequence of my recent injury. Unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. I need to rest so I can recover and play 100% pain free. I am very sorry, I will see you next year @InteBNLdItalia."

Alcaraz, who turns 21 on Sunday, lost his bid for a third straight Mutua Madrid Open title with a three-set fall to Andrey Rublev of Russia on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
His arm problems stretch back to an injury he sustained while training in Monaco ahead of the start of the clay court season. He missed the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open.
The Spaniard returned to play at Madrid with a compression sleeve on the right arm.
Alcaraz won the 2022 U.S. Open and 2023 Wimbledon. He has an 18-5 record in the 2024 season, including his 13th tour-level title at Indian Wells.
