AEW star Cash Wheeler going to trial over assault with a firearm charge
Cash Wheeler source: AP AEW star Cash Wheeler will go to trial in Florida on May 20 for his aggravated assault with a firearm charge.
Wheeler, one-half of the tag team FTR, did not appear in court yesterday, but was arraigned, according to PWInsider. His attorney entered a not-guilty plea on Wheeler’s behalf. The wrestler must appear at the pre-trial, which is schedule for May 7.
If convicted, the third-degree felony has a fine of $5,000, up to five years in prison, and up to five years of probation.
The former AEW tag team champion allegedly flashed a gun during a July 27, 2023, road rage incident, according to police.
A warrant was filed the next day, and Wheeler turned himself in to the police in August.
In the incident report, the responding officer Cpl. Mitchell Bowhay wrote that the victim Daniel Matta “looked over and noticed a white male with a beard pointing a black semi-automatic handgun out of the driver’s window at him with a strong stare.”
“AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation,” the company said in a statement after Wheeler’s arrest. “He is fully cooperating with local authorities.”
Wheeler wrestled under the name Dash Wilder while with WWE. Along with his partner Dax Harwood — fka Scott Dawson in the fed — Wheeler has held numerous titles, including the AEW (twice), Ring of Honor, New Japan, and AAA tag belts. The duo were two-time WWE Raw tag champs, and one-time Smackdown tag title holders.
