CBC Loses Signal In Middle Of Stanley Cup Celebration
CBC lost Canada's rights to the NHL this year, so when the Kings scored in double overtime to win the Stanley Cup, that moment marked the end of an era. It also marked the end of CBC's transmission, which disappeared amidst L.A.'s celebration.
CBC scrambled to get NBC's feed simulcast, but the picture was distorted (perhaps a result of CBC & NBC using different broadcast standards) and remained so for four minutes. It took another four to get CBC back online—meaning the final Cup presentation to be aired on CBC for the foreseeable future wasn't aired with CBC's cameras.
Given that CBC's signal went out at exactly 12:30:00, we're thinking it was a satellite lease issue. We'll update if we hear more.
