Mandatory Credit: Hannah Foslien-Imagn Images A seven-save performance for Jonathan Sirois helped visiting CF Montreal to a 0-0 draw against D.C. United on Saturday night.
Despite not scoring for the third straight match, Montreal (0-3-1, 1 point) claimed its first non-losing result and first shutout of the season.
D.C. (1-0-3, 6 points) kept its unbeaten streak alive, but was held scoreless for the first time in 2025 after scoring two goals in each of its first three matches. It did keep a clean sheet, its first since a 1-0 win over Montreal on March 30, 2024.
Sirois' best save came in the 51st minute. David Schnegg found Jared Stroud on the far post with a chipped cross, but the Montreal goalkeeper erased a would-be goal with an alert sliding stop.
D.C. appeared to find the net in the 27th minute as Christian Benteke, who had scored in all three of his team's previous matches, scored to make it 1-0. After a closer look at the goal via video review, however, the goal was waved off as the striker was ruled to have committed a handball in the buildup.
Montreal saw its own glimpses at goal, meanwhile, but barely challenged D.C. keeper Kim Joon-Hong. Its best chance came on a Bryce Duke free kick that was stopped by the South Korean international before he denied Prince Owusu on a follow-up attempt in the 75th minute.
Joon-Hong ended the night with three saves for D.C.
Despite enjoying more of the play as the match went on, CF Montreal was held off the scoreboard as their goalless streak continued. Their last goal came in the 71st minute of their season opener, a 3-2 loss to Atlanta United on Feb. 22.
D.C. finished with an 18-12 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
