Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert hobbled off the field in the third quarter of Sunday's meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers due to an apparent ankle injury and was questionable to return.
Herbert went to the sideline as the clock ticked under seven minutes in the third following a 1-yard rush by J.K. Dobbins. One play earlier, the Los Angeles signal-caller seemingly got his ankle caught under Pittsburgh defensive tackle Cameron Heyward on a sack.
Taylor Heinicke took over under center for the Chargers.
Herbert went to the blue medical tent, eventually emerging to return to the Los Angeles bench with his helmet off.
Prior to exiting, Herbert completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.
Herbert, 26, missed two practices and was limited in another this week due to a high ankle sprain.
