Christopher Morel, Rays outslug D-backs in 10th inning

Christopher Morel hit a two-run homer to cap Tampa Bay's three-run 10th inning and the Rays beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-4 in Phoenix on Thursday, their second straight extra-inning victory.

Morel's long ball followed a run-scoring double by Junior Caminero off J.P. Feyereisen (0-1). The Rays tied it with three singles in the ninth, Yandy Diaz's one-out hit being the run-scoring blow.

Morel had two hits and three RBIs and Diaz collected three hits for the Rays, who won the rubber match of the three-game series.

Tim Tawa homered and Corbin Carroll, Josh Naylor and Alek Thomas each had a hit and an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four of six.

Tawa has three homers in the past five games. Overall, he has four home runs and nine RBIs in 36 at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A Reno to replace injured Ketel Marte on April 5.

Edwin Uceta (2-1) pitched the ninth and Pete Fairbanks stranded two in the 10th for his fourth save in as many chances. He struck out Carroll and then got Geraldo Perdomo to ground out to end the game.

The Rays tied it in the ninth when Chandler Simpson and Danny Jansen singled with one out off Ryne Nelson before Diaz's single.

Arizona starter Corbin Burnes gave up three runs, one earned, while striking out eight and walking three in 5 1/3 innings. His fielding error led to two runs in the sixth, but he was in line for the victory until the Rays tied it in the ninth.

Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen gave up four runs on five hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.

Carroll singled on the first pitch in the last of the first and stole second before Perdomo was hit by a pitch. Carroll scored on Naylor's one-out single, but Rasmussen got out of it with a double-play grounder.

Arizona's Gabriel Moreno walked and took second on Eugenio Suarez's single to open the second inning, and Thomas doubled in Moreno. Suarez scored on Carroll's groundout for a 3-0 lead.

Kameron Misner walked and scored Jose Caballero's two-out double for the Rays' run in the fifth. Tawa's homer made it 4-1 in the bottom of the inning.
