CleffTheGod grabs Madden Bowl berth at Last Chance Qualifier
Madden Championship Series, Madden Bowl, Madden, EA Sports Dwayne "Cleff The God" Wood claimed the final spot in next month's Madden Bowl on Wednesday, beating Karon "RonJ" Jones 23-13 in the final of the Last Chance Qualifier in Orlando.
Along with the spot in the Madden Bowl, Cleff pocketed $10,000.
But after the match, his attention was on the next tournament.
"I'm just excited to be in Madden Bowl," said the veteran Cleff, who won his first career belt at the Zero Chill Challenge in 2024. "I'm focused to win Madden Bowl because I'm not just trying to beat him, I'm trying to win it all."
The Madden Bowl will take place at Chase Center in San Francisco as part of the Super Bowl Week festivities. The tournament will feature 14 players who earned their way through a series of qualifiers this season and features a $1 million prize pool, with the champion to be crowned Feb. 6.
The winner will pocket $250,000 with the runner-up getting $150,000.
On Wednesday, Cleff advanced to the championship match with a 41-39 thriller over Chosen in a semifinal. In the other semi, RonJ topped Big Tay 34-20. RonJ, a Madden Championship Series rookie, got $8,000 for finishing second.
In the final, Cleff opened the scoring on a 1-yard quarterback draw on the first play of the second quarter. But RonJ answered with a 1-yard pass on fourth and goal little more than a minute later.
Cleff would add a pair of field goals to hold a 13-7 lead midway through the fourth before scoring on a 3-yard toss with 2:28 to play to take a 20-7 lead and put the game away.
