Clint Dempsey Bends Long-Range Free Kick Perfectly Into The Top Corner
Clint Dempsey opened the scoring in Tuesday’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal between the Seattle Sounders and Mexico’s Club América with this prodigious free kick:
Dempsey added a second goal to his tally, but América got two of their own, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. That likely spells doom for the Sounders, who will have to travel down to Mexico City in a week and beat América in the fearsome Estadio Azteca. That’s a difficult enough task, not to mention that the Sounders aren’t in mid-season form—the MLS season doesn’t begin for two weeks—while América is seven games into Liga MX’s Torneo Clausura.
