The former NBA MVP had appeared in every game for the Clippers this season before suffering the injury Friday against the Washington Wizards. The team hopes he will return before the playoffs begin next month, ESPN reported.
When Westbrook sustained a broken right hand in 2014, he missed just 14 games and returned to the court less than a month post-surgery.
Westbrook, 35, has filled a bench role for the Clippers since they acquired James Harden. In 58 games (10 starts) this season, he has averaged 11.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in just 22.6 minutes per game.
The nine-time All-Star has career averages of 21.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game in 1,152 career games. Westbrook is the NBA's all-time leader in triple-doubles with 198.
