College Hoops Compendium: I Hate It When UNC Is This Good

• (4) North Carolina 92, Arizona 64. Lute Olson vows to burn the game tape of this one, and if that's all he burns, it's an accomplishment, because no one would blame him if he engulfed himself in flames right about now. Arizona had lost three of their last four, but still had this date to look at ... a game where they could prove that they were still a team to be reckoned with. And that's true, if by "reckoned with," you mean "humiliated in front of a national audience."

• (5) Ohio State 66, Michigan State 64. For twenty minutes of play, the Buckeyes were a UNC/Arizona job on Michigan State. The Spartans were down 20 at the break, but fought back to get within two late in the game ... and then watched a last-second three-ball clank off the rim. I guess you could credit Michigan State for showing the plums to come back, but at the same time, you wonder why they opted to play the first half plumless. By the way, I am uncomfortable with Jim Tressel exposing himself to Erin Andrews like that.

• (7) Oregon State 77, (18) Washington State 74. It's rare that I feel like I'm missing out by not observing west coast sports quite as closely as I do the east coast teams, but the Pac-10 seems like a hell of a lot of fun this year. Both teams had 30 point scorers; Derrick Low with 37 for Washington State, and Aaron Brooks with 31 for Oregon.

• Brigham Young 61, (13) Air Force 52. How to beat the #13 team in the country. Step 1, play them at home, where you've won 27 straight. Step 2, outrebound them by 22. Step 3, marry 31 teenage girls rely on that proud BYU spirit. Air Force falls to 19-3, but still has a 1/2-game lead in the conference.
