Compounding Throwing Errors Turn Wild Pitch Into Three Stooges Routine
Look, baseball is hard. You have to catch and throw a little tiny white ball past someone who wants to murder it with a stick that was expressly made to murder the ball. If your opponent clobbers it, you have to scramble around and shit. This isn’t to excuse the incredible meltdown Oakland suffered on this play, just to point out that the game is full of bad defense and mistakes happen. But rarely do they compound in such a thorough, slapstick manner.
University of Illinois-Chicago eventually won this game 10-9, and without this base-clearing wild pitch, they may have ended up crashing out of the Horizon League playoffs. No Oakland baseballers can catch a break, man.
