Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-Imagn Images The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Corbin Carroll on the injured list Tuesday and recalled outfielder Jake McCarthy from Triple-A Reno.
Carroll was hit by a pitch from the Toronto Blue Jays' Justin Bruihl last week, with Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo revealing Monday that the team's star outfielder was diagnosed with a chip fracture in his left wrist.
A timetable for Carroll's return remains unknown.
Carroll, 24, had a breakout season in 2023, winning National League Rookie of the Year, making the NL All-Star team and finishing fifth in Most Valuable Player voting.
In 417 career games, Carroll has a .257 batting average with a .488 slugging percentage, as well as 71 home runs, 35 triples, 208 RBIs and 101 stolen bases. He led the NL in triples in each of the previous two seasons.
McCarthy, 27, was just 3-for-41 in 14 games with Arizona this season. He was batting .314 with one home run and 16 RBIs in 49 games at Reno.
Battling inconsistencies at the plate since making his major league debut for the Diamondbacks in 2021, McCarthy is a career .263 hitter with 20 home runs, 122 RBIs and 78 stolen bases in 278 career major league games.
