Davis, 63, finished his sixth season with the Titans on Tuesday with an 83-79 loss to Milwaukee in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament.
The Titans finished 1-19 in league play. The team was winless in November, December and January and scored a victory Feb. 14 against IUPUI after 26 straight losses to begin the season.
Davis leaves Detroit Mercy with a 60-119 overall record, 44-65 in conference action.
"On behalf of our entire community, I want to thank Coach Davis and his family for their dedication, commitment and competitive spirit he brought to Detroit Mercy," athletic director Robert C. Vowels Jr. said. "We wish the best for him and his family as his coaching journey continues."
Davis previously coached Indiana (2000-06) to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Final Four in his second season. He also was head coach at UAB (2006-12) and Texas Southern (2012-18).
His overall coaching record is 412-360 in 772 games.
UAB qualified for one NCAA Tournament and Texas Southern made it to four.
The Titans finished over .500 just once in Davis' tenure at 12-10 in the pandemic season of 2020-21.
