Diana Nyad Completes Cuba-To-Florida Swim, Is Better Than Us
Diana Nyad became the first person ever to complete the swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage on Monday, because she is not human.
The 64-year-old Nyad started in Havana, Cuba on Saturday morning and ended the 103-mile, 53-hour journey a little before 2 p.m. today in the Florida Keys.
This was Nyad's fifth attempt; she had tried the feat and failed once in 1978, twice in 2011 and once in 2012. Nyad had previously said that this would be her final attempt at accomplishing the distance.
In 1997, 22-year-old Susie Maroney completed the swim, but she used a shark cage. Nyad did not.
Diana Nyad is a badass.
