Dirk Nowitzki Says He Invented The "White Version" Of The Dream Shake
With 23 points last night, Dirk Nowitzki moved into ninth place on the NBA all-time scoring list. He passed Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon, meaning that Nowitzki has now scored more points in the NBA than any other foreign-born player.
Nowitzki owes a lot of his success to his one-legged, fall-away jumper—an iconic shot that's simply impossible to defend. After the game, Nowitzki talked about how his signature shot compares to Olajuwon's Dream Shake, another one of basketball's most famous shots:
"I came up with a shot where I just have to basically lean back, don't be athletic at all and just hoist it up," said Nowitzki.
"I came up with my own 'Dream Shake' I guess — the white version."
It's always fun when Dirk is his self-effacing self, but he's selling himself short when he describes his shot as un-athletic. If that were the case, the rest of the big men in the NBA wouldn't have so much trouble trying to duplicate it.
