Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Images Clayton Kershaw will not be on the Los Angeles Dodgers' roster for the National League Wild Card Series, manager Dave Roberts said Sunday, a day that also marked the end of the veteran left-hander's 18-year regular-season career.
Roberts confirmed the decision ahead of the best-of-three series, which begins Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers will rely on Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to start against either the New York Mets or Cincinnati Reds, with Emmet Sheehan and Tyler Glasnow expected to be available in relief.
Kershaw, who has announced he will retire at the end of the season, started Sunday's regular-season finale in Seattle.
The 37-year-old left-hander is not being ruled out for later rounds. If the Dodgers advance, he could be added to the NL Division Series roster or used in a bullpen role deeper into October.
An 11-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner, Kershaw finishes the regular season with 451 career starts, all for Los Angeles.
