Right-hander Daniel Hudson announced his retirement shortly after his Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday to win the World Series.

Hudson, 37, became a two-time champion after the Dodgers posted a 7-6 win over the Yankees in Game 5 in New York. He also won a World Series title with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

"This was the only reason I came back -- to go out on top," he said Wednesday night. "And that's what's happening."

Hudson's final appearance was not his best, as he surrendered four runs on two hits in one inning to take the loss in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Hudson posted a 6-2 record with 10 saves and a 3.00 ERA in 65 relief appearances this season with the Dodgers.

He was 65-45 with 43 saves and a 3.74 ERA while pitching in 547 games (61 starts) for seven teams during his career, including six seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also received the 2011 National League Silver Slugger Award for pitchers.
