Mandatory Credit: Peter Aiken-Imagn Images Dejan Joveljic's game-tying goal in the 80th minute stamped a furious Sporting Kansas City comeback, as the club earned its first point of the season with a 3-3 draw against visiting Minnesota United FC on Saturday.
Trailing by three until the 68th minute, Kansas City (0-3-1, 1 point) got a goal from Daniel Salloi as well as an own goal from Minnesota to crack the points column in its fourth game.
Minnesota (2-1-1, 7 points) will go home with a point, but easily could have picked up three after taking a 3-0 advantage after halftime. The club earned points for a third straight game, but had its two-game winning streak snapped.
After Minnesota's Tani Oluwaseyi's shot went wide right 12 minutes in, Hassani Dotson took a perfect header pass from Morris Duggan and fired in the game's first goal with just over 14 minutes off the clock.
At the 31-minute mark, Bongokuhle Hlongwane raced up the right sideline and sent a pass across the box to Oluwaseyi, who slid Minnesota's second goal past KC goalkeeper John Pulskamp.
Taking its 2-0 edge into halftime, Minnesota held Sporting Kansas City to just two shot attempts in the first half, neither on goal.
Oluwaseyi then opened the scoring in the second half with his second goal, assisted by Joaquin Pereyra, giving Minnesota a 3-0 edge a minute in.
KC cracked the scoreboard at the 68th minute with Salloi scoring on an assist from Tim Leibold. Just four minutes later, Shapi Suleymanov sent a shot across the box, which ricocheted off Duggan for an own goal.
After a Minnesota turnover deep in its own territory, KC completed its comeback with Joveljic's goal, assisted by Manu Garcia at the 80-minute mark.
Minnesota's leading scorer entering the game, Kelvin Yeboah (hip), was cleared to play two hours before the match. He came in as a substitute in the 74th minute.
