Duke, the No. 4 seed in the South Region, opens play Friday against No. 13 Vermont in New York.
The 6-foot-5 Foster hasn't played since suffering the injury in Duke's Feb. 24 loss to Wake Forest.
"My heart breaks for Caleb because Caleb has done literally everything you could ask from a guy who has an injury and trying to get back out there," Scheyer said.
Foster has played in 27 games (15 starts) and averages 7.7 points per game. He's shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from 3-point range.
The guard rotation now consists of Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor and Jared McCain.
"There's no replacing Caleb," Scheyer said. "He's got a big heart. He's a tough competitor and he's just somebody that makes everybody better on the floor. And unfortunately we've had to play without him since the Wake Forest game ."
