Duncan Keith Given Match Penalty, Ejected For Hitting Charlie Coyle In The Face With His Stick
Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith was given a match penalty—and therefore automatically ejected—after hitting Wild forward Charlie Coyle in the face with his stick.
The incident occurred in the middle of the first period of the Wild’s eventual 4-1 win. Keith and Coyle got tangled up behind the play, and Keith fell to the ice. Seeming in retaliation, he violently swung his stick at Coyle, clocking him in the face and causing some bleeding. You can bet see it above at the :24 mark.
The Department of Player Safety is reportedly getting involved, and Keith might be looking at a decent suspension. Besides the viciousness of blatantly swinging his stick at a guy’s face, Keith was suspended for high sticking in 2013 and for an elbow to the head in 2012.
