Can The White Sox Become All-Time Greats?
This image was lost some time after publication, but you can still view it [object Object] . Well, as Fear And Faith In Flushing sadly put it yesterday, we've reached that depressing point when we realize the baseball season is almost over. The White Sox could win their first World Series since before the Red Sox began all their suffering, and the Astros, as pretty much headline writer in the country has discovered, have their Backe's against the wall.
If the White Sox were to win tonight, don't you kind of think they have to be considered one of the more outstanding teams of the last decade? They finished with the second-best record in baseball (by just one game, behind — sigh — the Cardinals), and they would have blitzed through the postseason with an 11-1 record. Pretty fantastic, right? If the Yankees did that, they'd be bronzing them, or at least A-Rod's lips. And in that run, they beat the last two champions of their league in the playoffs, and a team with three amazing starting pitchers in the Series. We dunno. Something to consider, at least.
Personally, we're just hoping Steve Perry makes another appearance tonight. That's all we ask.
