Hooters Responds, Will Throw Free Party For Middle School Football Team
Yesterday, we wrote about Corbett Middle School's football team, and specifically, head coach Randall Burbach's failed crusade to have his team's end of season awards dinner at the Hooters in Jantzen Beach, Oregon. We wrote about a man fighting for the rights of 12-year-old boys to gawk, unabashed, unrelenting, at scantily-clothed waitresses while munching on breaded chicken drumsticks tossed in sweet Habañero BBQ. We wrote about freedom.
Coach Burbach lost his job fighting for those boys when the Corbett Middle School athletic director, JP Sougnalet, told him and some of his staff to turn in their playbooks following some completely oblivious parents' outrage over their boys stepping foot in Hooters, and Burbach's refusal to back down and move the party elsewhere.
Coach lost his fight. But is this not America? Is there no one willing to pick up his cause?
There is, and that someone is Hooters itself. Because Hooters gets it. And that's why they sent us this statement last night:
Hooters of America Statement:
"The Corbett Middle School football players, coaches and their families have earned the right to celebrate a successful, hard-fought season. This Saturday, Nov. 9, Hooters is picking up the tab for an awesome end-of-season football party to honor the team's gridiron success. To top it all off, Hooters will donate $1,000 along with 20 percent of Saturday's Jantzen Beach location sales to Corbett Youth Football so that the entire community can join in celebrating the team's winning season."
And there you have it. The party's still on. Even though it's not an official Corbett Middle School team event, the Hooters people are gracious enough, generous enough, and above all, patriotic enough to give back to the same community that shunned them.
Let's all go to Hooters Jantzen Beach on Saturday. With any luck, Coach Burbach will be working the grill.
