NHL 94 Was More Complicated Than You'd Think
This image was lost some time after publication. For those of a certain age, no video game had more cultural impact — and was played so often under the influence of MadDog 20/20 — than NHL '94. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not the game they're playing in Swingers; sadly, they had already eliminated the bleeding option by then, thus decreasing the ability to partake in the activity in regards to Wayne Gretzky.
But it's a classic game, and, amusingly, blog 10 Cent Freeze Pops got a hold of the oddly comprehensive game manual.
Today I want to look at the most underrated part of this game. No, not the crowd meter, not the unstoppable force that is the Phil Housley, today I am here to talk about the Instruction Manual. That may sound a bit weird, but I assure you once you look at it you will understand. To begin with, it is 88 pages long. That's right... 88 pages. The game involves 3 buttons and a directional pad and still produced the longest instructional manual of all time.
We love that there's a two-page section on skating. You know, the thing you do by moving the controller around.
