Report: Los Angeles Kings Prospect Charged With Attempted Strangulation Of His Girlfriend
Manchester Monarchs goalie Patrik Bartosak—who was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round of the 2013 draft—was charged Tuesday with 12 different domestic violence-related charges, according to the Union Leader.
The paper reports that Bartosak is charged with felony second-degree assault for allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend, while seven simple assault charges relate to allegedly pushing, choking, grabbing, punching, and slapping her. Bartosak also allegedly issued a number of violent threats towards his girlfriend:
Three criminal threatening charges allege he told her: “If you don’t have anything to say I’m going to kill you,” “I’m going to punch you in the face if you don’t say anything,” and “I hope you know I’m going to knock you out and put you to sleep before I leave.”
Earlier this summer former Kings defenseman Slava Voynov plead no contest to domestic violence charges. After he was released from jail Voynov immediately went into immigration custody, and has since returned home to Russia.
In response to the charges against Bartosak—the nephew of former NHL forward Radek Bonk—the Kings sent out this anodyne statement:
This is a very serious matter and these allegations represent a type of behavior we do not stand for. We will continue to gather information and comment further when appropriate.
