Harrison Butker one-ups Jake Moody, eclipses Super Bowl-record FG
source: AP San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody set a Super Bowl record by converting a 55-yard field goal in the second quarter. That mark fell quickly as Harrison Butker bested it by hitting a 57-yarder for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The previous record was 54 yards, set by Buffalo Bills kicker Steve Christie in Super Bowl 28.
It was Butker’s second field goal of the night. He converted from 28 yards out shortly before halftime.
Butker made 33 of his 35 attempts in the regular season. His season-long was 60 yards. The seven-year pro is a perfect 9-of-9 in this postseason.
He was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Kansas City. Butker, who played collegiately at Georgia Tech, is a two-time Super Bowl champion.
Moody’s kick gave San Fran a 3-0 lead over the reigning champions.
The 49ers drafted Moody, 24, in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan. He hit a school-record 59-yard field goal while with the Wolverines.
Moody was previously 3-for-5 on field goal attempts this postseason. He made a 52-yarder against Green Bay in the NFC Divisional Round, and kicks from 43 and 33 against the Detroit Lions in the Conference Championship Game.
During the regular season, Moody converted 21-of-25 of his field goal attempts. His season-long make was 57 yards.
