Minor-League Pitchers Combine To Finish Very Strange No-Hitter

Logan Darnell of the Rochester Red Wings, a Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, put the finishing touches on a no-hitter against the Durham Bulls Monday night. Darnell only pitched the last six innings of the game, though, and the man who originally started the game isn't even a member of the Red Wings anymore.

On July 24, Trevor May took the mound for the Red Wings and pitched three no-hit innings against the Bulls. But a rain storm rolled in after the third inning, and the game, which was being played in Durham, had to be suspended. The two teams didn't pick the action back up until Monda night, this time in Rochester, but May couldn't get back on the mound because he had been called up to the big leagues. Enter Darnell, who finished off a no-hitter that had begun 18 days earlier, in a different stadium, and with a different pitcher on the mound.

After the game, Darnell says he texted May to tell him the good news. From the Democrat and Chronicle:

"After all," Darnell said, "he was part of this, too. It's kind of sad that he's not here."

May was thrilled.

"Boom! That's awesome!" he texted back from Houston.

Even though May is now with the Twins, getting partial credit for this no-hitter was probably the highlight of his week. He has walked nine(!) guys and surrendered six runs in just four-and-a-third innings in two appearances with the big club.
