We Are All Dave McKenna LXXVII
Here's your daily link to Dave McKenna's brilliant "Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder," which we'll be posting until [Daniel] Snyder's dumbass libel suit leaves Brown because of incessant teasing.
Promises, promises. Dan Snyder knows all about broken promises.
In the latest shakeup under new Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, Charley Casserly was forced out as general manager and given a new title as "consultant to the owner." Vinny Cerrato, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, was given Casserly's job under the title of director of player personnel. When he was wooing NFL owners to approve his purchase of the Redskins, Snyder vowed to retain Casserly as general manager. However, after his first meeting with Casserly and coach Norv Turner, Snyder recognized the soured relationship between the two and decided he had to renege on his promise. "The tension around the football team was just not workable," a team source said. "When you have the two leaders of the team not speaking to each other, something's got to be done about it. There's no way Snyder could have known that until he got into the building."
But, as Dan Snyder also knows, important promises only flow one way:
"This is Mr. Snyder's football [team]," Robiskie said. "He owns the football team, I know that... I promise you there are very few things in the building I'm going to say I want to change without calling him and telling him I want to change it. If I wanted to change my desk, I'm going to call him and ask if I can change my desk. If I wanted to change quarterbacks, I'm going to call and say to him, `What do you think of me changing quarterbacks?'
Well, anyway, we promised you yesterday that there'd be an exciting twist in today's Dave McKenna post. Sorry. You can now tell that we were full of shit. It's coming, though, before too long. Really!
In the meantime, please help the City Paper with a donation to the weekly's legal defense fund.
