Mandatory Credit: Ed Szczepanski-Imagn Images ESPN and LeBron James are finalizing a deal to chronicle the NBA superstar's time with the Philadelphia 76ers in a behind-the-scenes documentary, The Athletic reported Thursday.
A source said the talks are at the "1-yard line," with the project being similar to "The Last Dance" series featuring Michael Jordan. That 10-part series, co-produced by ESPN Films and Netflix, aired in 2020 to great acclaim.
James, 41, signed with the Sixers on Sunday in what is expected to be the final move of his legendary career. A camera crew will document the four-time NBA MVP's chase for a fifth championship ring, per the report.
The documentary reportedly will include footage from throughout the 22-time All-Star's career, including never-before-seen clips of the league's all-time leading scorer.
James signed a two-year, $8 million deal with Philadelphia following eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers (2018-26), four with the Miami Heat (2010-14) and 11 with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2003-10, 2014-18).
There should be no shortage of documentary material on James, who has been in the public eye since bursting onto the scene as a 17-year-old Sports Illustrated cover athlete in 2002. He won NBA titles with each of his three previous teams, most recently with the Lakers in 2019-20.
