ESPN's graphics department has no idea what chicken cutlets look like
source: Getty Images The Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big “H.” It was a most ripping victory, led by rookie QB Tommy DeVito.
As Tommy Cutlets continues to wow fans at MetLife Stadium, ESPN’s broadcast depiction of him and his brand was a bit soggy. The graphic showed DeVito, sitting on his family couch in his Giants uniform, with a plate of chicken cutlets in front of him. In the chicken were two toothpicks, one with his nickname, and the other with his stats entering Monday. He was 2-1 and had thrown for seven touchdowns.
Many fans were not impressed with the way the food looked, taking to social media to voice their displeasure.
While the digital cutlets might look unappetizing on the TV, fans tailgating made sure to make some proper ones before the game.
DeVito and his family have taken the internet by storm. Not only because of his on-field story, but because he has said that he still lives at home with his parents in New Jersey.
“I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m eating for dinner, chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there,” DeVito said to ESPN earlier in the season, “My mom still makes my bed. Everything is handled for me. Honestly, I don’t even know if I could find a place closer to here than where I live. It takes me 12 minutes to get here.”
His family had a tailgate of 300 or so people, serving up all types of Italian food (cutlets included, of course).
“I always knew he had the talent to play at this level,” Tom DeVito, his father told The New York Post, “but I never could ever fathom the instant fandom that he has everywhere. … Some people aren’t always happy for somebody, if they win the lottery or if something good happens, but I have to say, just about everybody I’ve come in contact with, it’s so genuine … you hold back tears in your eyes because you see how genuine and happy they are.”
