This month, Florida golfer Tommy Fleetwood received the $154,480 owed to English golfer Tommy Fleetwood by the European Tour for his 12th-place finish, and his friend tweeted the proof. There it is, right above a $14.37 charge at WalMart.
The money has since been routed to the correct Fleetwood, and the English golfer seemed amused by the kerfuffle, telling the , “I honestly didn’t know anything about it. I wouldn’t even know if I’d been paid or not because I don’t really look. It looks pretty genuine and they are looking into it and I’m sure they’ll feel pretty bad about it. The Florida-based Fleetwood is a teaching pro who competed in some professional events in Europe years ago. “I think what happened was that he played some Challenge Tour events on the European Tour back in the day and they must still have his details on file,” his friend Greg Thorner said. “At least he can always say he won $150,000 at the Open.”
