Even Steve Donahue Can't Believe How Far The Boston College-Maryland Rivalry Has Fallen
There was a time—and it really wasn't that long ago—that a men's basketball meeting of Boston College and Maryland meant two top-ranked teams facing off in a bitter battle for ACC supremacy. My, oh, my, how things have changed. While last night's bout still earned national broadcast on ESPNU, the stakes certainly are different these days for the Eagles and Terrapins. Boston College, even this early in the ACC schedule, is struggling to stay above .500. Maryland's actually a respectable 15-4, though one would note they've managed exactly two victories over teams ranking in the RPI top 100; their signature win over N.C. State lost some luster when the Wolfpack fell last night to hapless Wake Forest—a team whose fans couldn't decide if they wanted the upset win or to accelerate the exit of embattled coach Jeff Bzdelik. ACC, where have you gone?
