FaZe Vegas locks up upper bracket finish for CDL Major 4
FaZe Vegas was one of three winning clubs on the final day of Call of Duty League Stage 4 Major qualifying Sunday, though Vegas was the only team to assure itself an upper bracket berth in the process.
Vegas downed the Carolina Royal Ravens 3-0 to set up a four vs. five matchup in the first round of the upper bracket against the Paris Gentle Mates.
The Miami Heretics, G2 Minnesota and the Ravens all dropped final-day matches to each finish 2-3, though only Miami's 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Surge proved costly, as Miami dropped into the lower bracket, where the Heretics await alongside Cloud9 New York, Toronto KOI and the Surge to see who will drop their upper bracket quarterfinal matchups.
Toronto was the day's other winner, against Minnesota.
The 12 Call of Duty League teams played five qualifying matches apiece to determine seeding for the fourth major of the season to be held Thursday through June 28 at Nanterre, France. Each team receives 10 CDL points for each win.
FaZe blitzed Carolina 250-94 on Sake Hardpoint, edged them 6-5 on Raid Search and Destroy and then closed out the win with a 5-2 victory on Scar Overload.
Chris "Simp" Lehr paced the victors with 56 kills, though all four players exceeded 50 kills and finished with positive kills-to-deaths ratios.
Vancouver narrowly survived Miami 250-243 on Colossus Hardpoint before rallying with stronger margins, 6-3 on Raid Search and Destroy and 2-0 on Scar Overload.
Toronto KOI dug itself a 2-0 hole before rallying for the 3-2 win. G2 won 250-185 on Gridlock Hardpoint and 6-2 on Den Search and Destroy, before KOI made its move. Toronto won 4-3 on Scar Overload, 250-239 on Den Hardpoint and 6-5 on Fringe Search and Destroy for the narrow comeback victory.
The upper bracket will feature the following first-round matchups:
