FIFA Hits Luis Suárez With Four-Month Ban
No need to speculate anymore. FIFA has ruled that Luis Suárez's most recent biting episode, wherein he chomped into Italian center back Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder, was, in fact, a bite. To punish him, they brought down the hammer.
They opened disciplinary proceeding against the Uruguayan striker on Tuesday, and minutes ago, reports abounded that FIFA have banned Luis Suárez for nine official national team matches. Uruguay play Colombia in the Round of 16 on Saturday, but Suárez's World Cup is over.
They've also slapped him with a four-month ban from all soccer-related activity, which includes activity with his current club, Liverpool, and fine of 100,000 Swiss francs.
There are plenty of transfer rumors swirling around Suárez, who established himself as England's Premier League's best player last season after missing the start of the season for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanović. FIFA has recently clarified that he would be able to transfer in the summer window. If he stays with Liverpool for the upcoming season, however, the earliest we'll see him is the day after Halloween, away to Newcastle.
