Finally, Spring
Okay, I get it. Opening day should be a weekday afternoon, not a made-for-TV night game. And fans of 28 teams could care less about tonight's game. But still, what are you going to do — watch women's college basketball?
Actually, there's an intriguing little matchup in the second half of tonight's women's final four: UConn vs. Brittney Griner (and it's not being glib to phrase it that way). Which isn't to say the Huskies will be challenged, but neither UConn nor Griner has faced an opponent quite like this.
In fact, the women's hoops game takes TV precedence, bumping MLB to ESPN2. But a baseball game that's merely 1 out of 162, and won't have repercussions outside the AL East, has public precedence because it's the start of something.
It's in the high 70s today in the Northeast. Baseball is on tonight. Things are looking up.
