The excitement factor of the NFL Draft is forever ruined by insiders — and it sucks
Anyone who grew up watching the NFL draft (and others) before social media existence probably misses that anticipation of not knowing who their favorite team would select. That nervousness, sweaty palms, butterflies in the stomach, hoping one’s team would draft that next generational talent or even ...
Be prepared to cough up the dough for NFL Sunday Ticket if you decide to buy it
The NFL has gone The Wire season five Marlo Stanfield on its Sunday Ticket package. They removed the middle man and the price of the brick is not yesterday’s price. Through its new distribution partner — YouTube TV — the new Sunday Ticket options were released on Wednesday. Not only is it more expen...
The 2023 NFL draft is either a truncated dollar menu or a punch to the jewels
I’ve been a fan of a tanking team for a couple of years now, and I think the hardest part of staring at big boards before the season even hits its dog days is when that big board is dumbed down to a bar menu. The 2023 NFL Draft is one such menu. It’s airport Chick-Fil-A, going to Frontera when Topol...
Free to a good home: Running back, heavily used. Fair condition
Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is still a man without a football home. There had been speculation about where Elliott could land, but he’s still searching for that spot. Elliott’s frustrations are reportedly mounting with each passing day of free agency. Similar to common sense, ...
The NFL mistreats Black people in America, yet they keep expanding into Africa
A football league that’s been a willing participant in the discrimination and systemic oppression of Black people for over 100 years has announced that it will continue to expand into a continent where football — the global version — is king, which is also the place that Black people come from....
OBJ’s addition to the Ravens does nothing to shield Baltimore from Lamar Jackson’s plea
For months, it’s been the elephant in the room for the Ravens. Baltimore has done almost everything in its power, because actions mean more than any words out of John Harbaugh’s mouth, to anger and agitate star quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Ravens haven’t committed long-term to Jackson as the corne...
Tyreek Hill announces future retirement, and I own a goldfish
Welcome to Deadspin’s The Sports Nihilist, where all is for naught and we are but accidental jolts of electrified meat stuck to the surface of a rock in an indifferent universe. Fuck you....
The Baltimore Ravens are doing everything they can to agitate Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson has suffered a plethora of indignities at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. Add one more to the mix. Traditionally, MVP-caliber quarterbacks negotiate for top-dollar extensions that set the standard for the quarterback compensation model. Throughout their battle with Jackson, Baltimor...
John Elway parts with Broncos, gets out before draft history sinks in
John Elway’s tenure with the Denver Broncos was mercifully sent to the glue factory Wednesday, and he can now add “consultant” alongside “general manager” and “Super Bowl-winning quarterback” to the list of roles he formerly occupied for the organization. Thankfully for Donkos fans, Elway got out be...
Michael Bidwill is in full denial mode — just like his buddy Brett Kavanaugh
No one likes being accused of things. But, nobody despises it like white men — especially the rich ones. Almost five years after then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh threw a temper tantrum when he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee — due to being publicly accused of sexual miscond...
Bill Belichick is reportedly shopping Mac Jones because he's still pissed at the QB
Bill Belichick must have forgotten that he is not the only football luminary who has been Mac Jones’ head coach. Jones played college football for Nick Saban — arguably Belichick’s greatest student. Remember, “One band, one sound,” from the movie Drumline? That line is Alabama football. Every person...
Kirk Cousins to San Francisco? Let the speculation begin
Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins was a topic of discussion during this year’s NFL scouting combine. Cousins just completed his fifth year with Minnesota, leading the Vikings to an NFC North division title and the No. 3 seed in the conference. Unfortunately, all that got them was a...
Drew Rosenhaus is trying save as much of Jalen Carter’s first pay day as he can
NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus is trying to save himself and Jalen Carter from losing a great deal of money. Once considered the top available prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft, he has been red-flagged with maturity and work ethic issues in recent months. Carter is currently working out for teams priva...
Jordan Addison’s move to USC didn’t help his draft stock — it didn’t hurt either
This time last year, Jordan Addison had cemented himself as one of the best, if not the top, wide receiver in college football. Compiling 100 receptions, 1,593 yards, 17 touchdowns alongside the Biletnikoff Award will bring that kind of praise, especially for a wide receiver at Pittsburgh. The Panth...
Five NFL rumors you missed while watching college basketball
OBJ is said to have his sights set on a $15 million payday now, slightly less than the $20 million previously reported. The New York Jets have been linked to Beckham of late, but that won’t happen before the Aaron Rodgers deal is wrapped up. ...
Odell Beckham Jr.’s alleged price tag still too high for most NFL teams
Odell Beckham Jr. is still a free agent and reportedly has a new asking price tag of $15 million for one year. Those reports come courtesy of ESPN, just weeks after it came out that Beckham might be looking for a $20 million payday in 2023. Even with five million less than previously thought, most t...
Asante Samuel warns Lamar Jackson about New England, shades Bill Belichick
Ever since Tom Brady left New England, it feels like the shine has worn off the legend that is Bill Belichick. Suddenly, “the hoodie” is catching strays from all directions, including former players. Asante Samuel posted a warning to Lamar Jackson on Twitter about playing for Belichick....
Amateur sports at higher education American institutions are dead
On Wednesday, the performative set of elected officials who gather in Washington D.C. to raise money and occasionally draft legislation held a meeting to discuss the future of Name, Image and Likeness....
Twitter Action Jackson won’t back down anytime soon
Lamar Jackson is the NFL’s Shohei Ohtani. If this were Major League Baseball, he’d be demanding starting quarterback and starting veteran running back money, and some owner would oblige and airdrop whatever he demanded. Not only is the Baltimore Ravens’ one-man show on offense, but he’s also his own...
